St. Moritz and Beyond with Ted Gushue

A true man of the world, Ted Gushue is the official Global Ambassador for the town of St. Moritz. A founder, executive, and photographer across the digital media landscape, Ted brings together an eclectic mix of passions to form a fascinating alpine life. He joined our Chief Tradition Officer, Dan Egan, for a chat on his New England roots, the Cresta Run, his worldwide perspective on life, his 1976 Porsche 911 S, and much more.

The St. Moritz tobogganing club was started, like most winter sports were started here in St. Moritz, by a bunch of semi-alcoholic British vacationers who were bored out of their minds in the middle of winter when skiing hadn’t really been invented yet.

To feel the speed of 60, 70 mph on your chin as you go down an ice chute that you potentially could fall out of and break every bone in your body - there’s nothing like it

Having a Connecticut classic vehicle plate on an old Porsche, driving around the Swiss Alps, people go ‘what the hell is this’...especially considering the Swiss take the rules so seriously.
[St. Moritz] is so much more than what people assume, because they see pictures of people wearing fur coats and doing horse racing on the frozen lake, and all these things that are quite cool - but it really is a sportsman’s paradise.

From the archives, Dan visits St. Moritz and takes a “taxi ride” down the bobsled track - the only bob track in the world made from natural ice without refrigeration. Visitors to St. Mortiz can arrange their own bobsled ride (complete with celebratory champagne).

Visitors can also arrange introductory rides at the Cresta, as well.
