The World's Best Alpine Spas

Spas and the tradition of bathing in hot springs and mineral waters to heal the body and spirit is a tradition that dates back to the reign of Caesar Augustus. Escaping the stressors of daily life to "take the waters" is a tradition that has stood the test of time. This week, we're rounding up a few of the very best Alpine spas.

Forsthofgut Hotel & Spa- Leogang, Austria

The waldSPA at Forsthofgut or "forest farm" in Leogang, Austria has been rated the most beautiful spa hotel in Europe. With materials and ingredients sourced from the surrounding forests, and the most incredible feeling of being surrounded by all sides by awe-inspiring nature, the waldSPA offers an array of treatments and boasts a rose quartz sauna and mountain crystal steam bath.

Miramonti Boutique Hotel- South Tyrol, Italy

Perched 1230 meters above sea level, this is a spa in the clouds. A saltwater infinity pool seems to dangle off the edge of the mountain, and a swedish sauna boasts a wall of windows with incredible views of Merano below.

Cervo Mountain Boutique Resort- Zermatt, Switzerland

With a cluster of updated yet traditional chalets, each with their own spa, the Cervo is less 'grand spa resort', and more low-key luxe relaxation for those who fancy a bit of solitude in the sauna after a day on the slopes.

Le Grand Bellevue- Gstaad, Switzerland

Having reopened after extensive renovations, the spa at Le Grand Bellevue is among Europe's largest. Treatments include a hay sauna (like breathing deeply in an alpine meadow), and baths of alpine herbs, as well as a laconium and salt inhalation grotto, make this spa at one of Europe's grand dame hotels a must-go.
