THE FIS SKI WORLD

To call the FIS ski world a competitive league would be an understatement in todays realm. I think we can all agree that this season has absolutely proven to justify that statement. As race in and race out; athletes continue to push themselves to their ultimate limits. It’s truly something special to watch!

At Alps & Meters, being so heavily wrapped up in the Ski Racing world through our athletes and support to the sport. We like to remind ourselves to take a step back and reflect on the season thus far. Not only the results achieved by these athletes, but the locations these events take place in. Truly some of our favorite ski destinations. After all, if there’s anything we know about skiing, it’s the people, places, and memories made along the way.

BORMIO (ITA)

Bormio being one of our favorite towns situated in the province of Sondrio, in Lombardy, located in the upper part of the well-known Valtellina. Bormio, immersed in the Stelvio National Park , is a very popular tourist destination, both in winter and summer, as it offers numerous spas, elaborate ski slopes, enchanting landscapes and excellent local cuisine.

KITZBUEHEL (AUT)

Alps & Meters Athlete and U.S. Ski Team Downhiller Travis Ganong Snaps American Podium Drought With 3rd At Kitzbuhel. Truly a special moment for Travis and all he has accomplished throughout the years. Shortly after the race, Travis announced has retirement from ski racing. A well deserved victory and career for our friend!

KRONPLATZ (ITA)

Mikaela Shiffrin made history Tuesday at just 27 years old with her 83rd win after racing the giant slalom at the Kronplatz resort in the Italian Dolomites, etching herself into the history books as one of the greatest skiers of all time. With the 83rd win, Shiffrin beat Lindsey Vonn’s women’s World Cup skiing record.

“It might take me a little bit to figure out what to say,” Shiffrin said. “I don’t know what to say right now.”

Of Shiffrin’s 83 wins, 51 have come in slalom, 18 in giant slalom, five in super-G and only three in downhill. This was Shiffrin’s ninth win of the season.

As always, the circuit brings such excitement and memories each year. With a number of races on our list we still have to look forward to; Chamonix (FRA), Kvitfjell (NOR), and Aspen (USA). Along with newly added course (designed by Alps & Meters athlete Travis Ganong) at Palisades Tahoe.

Best of luck to all athletes as they close the season out on a great note!
