The 2020 Gift Guide
The annual Alps & Meters gift guide is back with a few investment-worthy items that are sure to add some enjoyment to the festive and winter periods.
Donation to Share Winter Foundation
When we reflect on our love for skiing, we often find ourselves coming back to the title of Warren Miller’s autobiography: Freedom Found. The title speaks to the true nature of the sport: a place of carefree adventure where happiness, exhilaration, and camaraderie collide in an explosion of joy - freedom in its purest form.
The Share Winter Foundation embodies this same principle, working with local chapters all over the country to provide access to the sport for under-resourced youth all over the US. Its mission is one that we are proud to support this holiday season so that everyone has the ability to experience the freedom that skiing brings.
Faber Snowshoes
With cross-country travel perhaps slightly diminished this winter, focus on some travel in your own backyard. Like the nordic explorers who came before us, snowshoeing fosters a similar connection to that of skiing, only in the solitude of wide open spaces.
The Faber Company has been handcrafting traditional snowshoes in Quebec since 1870. While there is a full range of lightweight, technical aluminum snowshoes, the traditional wool and leather shoes are our pick - especially the classic Ojibwa model used by the Natives of the North American plains to hunt, where speed was of the essence.
Oris Big Crown ProPilot
Inspired by the skies for over 70 years, independent Swiss watch manufacturer Oris has been producing specialist aviation watches since the launch of its first Oris Big Crown in 1938. Born to satisfy the demands of fighter pilots in Normandy, this heroic timepiece has since spawned a whole collection of sky-bound watches.
This classic pilots watch is as versatile as they come in a classic navy and silver color scheme with an elegant day-date function.
Larusmiani Champagne SabRE
The daily sabrage ritual at the St. Regis on the patio just outside of our Deer Valley store overlooking the slopes has long been one of our favorite traditions. Try your hand at home with this beautiful steel and rosewood sabre from Larusmiani, courtesy of our friends at The Rake.
Alpine Winter CollaR + Classic Pom Hat
Soft and comfortable essentials made from cashmere that you’ll be able to wear day in and day out. Available in a wide variety of colors to pair seamlessly with any winter outfit, on or off the slopes.
Type 7 Vol. 2
This book by our friend Ted Gushue takes a look at the world of Porsche through a discerning eye. A print version of their expertly curated Instagram feed, this book is made for a coffee table in the mountain chalet - whether or not you’re into cars.
Available for pre-order at many booksellers, including our Newbury Street neighbor Trident Booksellers.
Women’s Slalom Knit
One of our favorite sweaters we’ve made thus far, taking cues from legendary female racers like Penny Pitou, Andrea Mead Lawrence, and Gretchen Kunik Fraser. These pioneering women possessed the rare combination of flair, attitude, and alpine skill which often translated into their alpine attire.
With traditional racing motifs, a quarter-zip and a soft merino-cashmere body, it’s a sweater that can be lived in all winter long.
Loro Piana Lady Laax Walk Boot
These stunning ladies boots are made from Loro Piana’s Cashmere Storm System fabric and trimmed with soft deerskin. Finished with their classic rubber walking sole, these will perfectly tie any winter look together.
Theragun Mini
This travel-sized version of the percussive massage tool can easily be thrown in your ski bag and is a lifesaver at the end of those days when you don’t splurge for the spa.
