Even after the last lifts spin, and the snow has finally receded from the peaks, the Alps & Meters team makes a point to head for the hills whenever we can. From uncrowded hiking trails, to summer food, music and beer festivals, summer in mountain towns worldwide is not to be missed. Here are 6 picks for our favorite mountain-town happenings this summer. Check it out!
Probably the foremost mountain town festival and food festival in the country, the Food & Wine Classic draws big crowds with big name chefs. With chefs like Thomas Keller, Jacques Pepin, Marcus Samuelsson, and Christina Tosi on the roster, the Classic is the most exclusive food and wine festival in the country. Listen to master Sommeliers give tips on tasting, and introduce you to their favorite obscure varietals, while sampling treats from the best chefs in the Grand Tasting Pavillion. Parties, workshops, and demonstrations abound from June 17-19.
Park City already boasts one of our favorite downtowns of any ski town, but when Main St. shuts down for the annual Kimball Arts Festival every August, the town really shows off. 220 artists present their work, while live music plays and a Food Truck Round Up keeps festival goers fed. More family friendly than some of the other events listed here, what better way to visit PC in the summer than this?
Okay, so technically not a festival, but still worth the write-up. Outstanding in the Field is a series that travels the country, working with local chefs and local ingredients to provide pop-up dinners in incredible settings...In Late July, OITF is rolling into Jackson, for a dinner at the Mead Ranch, a working ranch at the foot of the Tetons. Guest chefs will prepare an elegant meal while guests dine at one long table set in the grasslands. Can't make it to WY? Outstanding in the Field hosts events all over, check their calendar!
Kick off summer riding with a week of group rides, workshops, and demos in Breckenridge, CO. Beautiful scenery, a slew of challenging rides, and a packed schedule make Breck Bike Week one to mark on the calendar.
Hometown hero Sean Lawson might be the most popular stop on the tasting trail at Sugarbush's annual beer and bluegrass fest, but visitors can taste brews from many sought after VT producers while live music floats through the mountain air. June in Vermont can't be beat, so it's worth a trip for the scenery alone.
