Vintage Ski World Picks: Summer Edition

Browsing Richard Allen’s Vintage Ski World has quickly become a weekly routine for us, as it is an endless source of alpine inspiration that also helps outfit our office and stores. Browsing through the site this week, there were a few items that caught our eye during these warm summer months.

Chamonix-Mt. Blanc Poster

The allure of Mt. Blanc is elegantly captured in this spring or summer scene: an alpinist, smartly dressed in an oxford shirt with the sleeves rolled up, prepares to climb the massif as vacationing onlookers give a friendly hello with drinks in hand. The train and bus at the bottom conjure up images of a tour to and through the mountains of the French Alps.

1970s Vintage Cebe Sunglasses

Channel classic Redford vibes in these French-made vintage Cebe sunglasses. Cebe was one of the most prolific manufacturers of glasses and goggles through the 1960s and 70s, and were seen on some of the best skiers - most notably Ingemar Stenmark. This classic silhouette works just as well on summer hikes as they do on the slopes in winter.

1970s Vasa Vintage Bamboo Cross Country Ski Poles

One of our favorite sets of poles that we’ve come across, these vintage poles were made in Sweden and feature a classic, eye-catching color scheme: from the deep brown of the bamboo to the white baskets, we want to take these poles out on a summer excursion with us.

White Stag Hard Downhill Ski Vintage Wax

A cherished late summer tradition has always been the process of readying skis for the upcoming winter: taking them off the rack, tuning the edges and finally applying a layer of wax. We love collecting old tins of ski wax - the iconography of these products are fascinating, reminding us of motor oil imagery from the 50s and 60s.
